I often hear artists say they have no time for business practice.
There are thousands of artists who make solid art.
The ones that make solid business are the one's that get paid.
Business is always 50 percent of an art life.

Read The Outliers

Malcolm Gladwell's book-The Outliers- has a chapter about how it takes 10,000 hours
of effort to be successful.
Promotion of one's art life requires constant PR.
It comes with the territory.
Be on task to do business at least fifty percent of your art life.

Be Redundant

Send hand written mail to at least ten people on your mailing list.
Send career updates.
Ask to have a show in one of your buyers home, yard, porch, etc.
Get a news story by calling, speak to a real person.
Copy and mail your news story to your art people.
Do this often in the year.

Art Career Maintenace

To have a long art career history, one has to do the business part well.
Sending career updates to people reminds them that the artist is active.
Often sales result. I am proof of that fact.
A first class stamp is a very valuable tool for art career maintenance.

Self Promotion Matters

Real artists understand self promotion matters.
Art dealers for working class artists don't have the time to PR
for the large number of artists in their galleries.
Working class, blue collar artists need to constantly, do out reach to stay in touch
with their art people. I do it by handwritten illustrated mail.
The personal touch works. Never be stuck on digital means.
Self promotion works. It has to be the personal responsibility
of the artist.

Money Combats Rejection

Having some money will combat rejection. I keep a fifty or one hundred dollar bill to deflect rejection.
I have done this for years. I know I can buy an adult beverage to drown rejection. With no major bills, I get to have Mr. Grant and Mr. Franklin as great allies in my artlife. I reject rejection.

Artists Need To Be Paid

No visual artist should work for free. Artists need money just like everyone one else.

Superbowl For Artists

Visual artists are in a Superbowl ,every day of their life. Making art and making money matters. No money no art life. Any artist that resents money, or artists who get paid ,are not too smart.
I am mercenary on purpose. Got some cash, won't take no trash.
I winning my own  personal Superbowl.

Art Life One Day At A Time

Art life is done one day at a time. The business of art is very important. Making art is one part of an artist's career. The business of getting the art into the marketplace is another. Having money means one can buy some time to more art. Artists need to be paid to do art life , one day at at time.
